There are lots of ways to get military insurance.

Military men and woman can be deployed on very short notice. This can leave very little time to deal with personal affairs. Any military insurance needs should be taken care of prior to deployment. It is a good idea to talk with your insurance agent about how the company will handle any issues that occur during your deployment.

Make sure your premiums are paid while you are away. Dealing with military insurance that does not have premiums paid and up to date is a hassle, even more so when deployed. This might mean you need to authorize to have someone act on your behalf while away, i.e. - power of attorney. Typically you would entrust a spouse, family member or a trusted friend. To assign someone to act with power of attorney, you will need to sign a form that is notarized. Health insurance is provided for active duty personnel, along with National Guard members and reservists after thirty consecutive days of active service. You can also elect to continue receiving health insurance from your employer if they offer it. This is typically a desirable choice if you have dependents. Note that employers are not required to pay the cost of health coverage while you are on active duty, some employers will. You are entitled to continue receiving health insurance at your own cost under federal law.

Home owner insurance is item to consider under military insurance. A lot of homeowner's policies have vacancy clauses that could come into play it you are away for an extended period of time. The definition of vacancy depends on your insurance policy. Note that some policies may not pay out if you are gone for and extended period of time, say 90 days or more. Check with your insurance agent. Same applies for renter's insurance - make sure to verify with your agent what is and isn't covered while deployed. Also, and or utmost importance, life insurance needs to be considered. Active duty servicemen and servicewomen are entitled to a low cost group term life insurance. This is also available for those in training of members of the reserve. Finally, consider suspended some of your automobile insurance coverage while deployed to save on premium payments. If no one is going to be driving your automobile while you are deployed, it doesn't necessarily make sense to have liability, comprehensive, or collision coverage. Again, talk to your agent about what insurance policies make the most sense for your situation.
